FBI Dress Code

The FBI has strict standards about what you wear while working for the agency. In fact, it’s one of the most detailed dress codes out there. If you want to work for the Bureau, you need to know exactly how to dress. Here are some tips on what to wear when you join the FBI.

1. You must wear a suit and tie every day.

2. Your shoes must match your pants, shirt, and tie.

3. All jewelry must be removed and replaced with a solid color watch.

4. Leave your hair down.

5. Don’t forget socks.

6. Avoid wearing anything too flashy.

FBI principles

The FBI is the primary federal investigative law enforcement agency within the United States. Its mission statement says it must “prevent the invasion of the United Sates of America,” “protect the United States of America against foreign intelligence, surveillance, cyber attacks,” and “combat significant cybercriminal activity.”

In addition to those priorities, the FBI must adhere specifically to four others:

1. Protecting human life and property

2. Ensuring public safety

3. Preserving the Constitution and rule of law

4. Maintaining the integrity of evidence

FBI Dress Code

The FBI’s dress code encompasses everything from how agents look while on duty to what they wear off it. Agents are expected to dress appropriately in accordance with their rank and position within the organization. While the Bureau doesn’t specify exactly what constitutes appropriate attire, there are some guidelines that apply across the board.

Agents are required to wear a standard uniform consisting of a black T-shirt, navy blue trousers, and a dark gray jacket. Most agents wear ties, although those working in certain positions may opt out.

White collar crimes often require agents to wear suits. However, even executives at the FBI are sometimes permitted to don casual clothes.

Grooming habits in the FBI

The FBI has been enforcing strict grooming standards since it began recruiting agents in the early 1900s. Agents now have to adhere to specific dress codes, including a white button down collar, black slacks, a navy blue jacket, and a tie. A beard is permitted, but must be trimmed short enough to prevent facial hair from touching the front of the necktie.

Agent candidates are instructed to keep their hair clean and neatly combed, and avoid wearing jewelry such as watches, rings, earrings, bracelets, or necklaces. Hair must be tied back off the face, and no hats or caps are allowed.

A typical haircut is preferred, but a buzz cut or fade is acceptable. Men should trim their fingernails regularly, and women must keep their nails clean and well shaped. Any nail polish must match the color of the agent’s uniform.

Tattoos are listed as a potential distraction to others under the bureau’s guidelines if they are not properly covered.

The Firearms Issued

After qualifying, they issue a fully automatic Glock 22 or a small semiautomatic Glock 23 to an FBI special agent, who must qualify again every three years. The Glock is chambered in.40 Smith & Wesson.

Both guns are designated “Glock 17,” and both are manufactured by Federal Cartridge Company. They are similar in appearance, except for the grip size. The Glock 22 is a full-sized gun, while the Glock 23 is compact.

In addition to the Glock 17, the FBI issues the following Glocks to special agents:

• Glock 26 (9mm subcompact): This model is used for backup purposes.

• Glock 23 (10mm Compact): Used for training purposes.

• Glock 27 (9mm subcompacts): Used for backup purposes.

Special agents may also acquire and outfit themselves with the following Glocks:

Transportation

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) use different types of cars depending on the type of assignment they receive.

Some FBI agents ride in black SUV’s, while others get assigned a blue sedan. Those are the most common vehicles used by the bureau.

While black looks to be a predominant hue throughout the fleet, there is one exception — the lone color.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the average American spends about $8,000 a year on transportation costs. A study conducted by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety found that Americans spent an average of $1,631 on gas in 2017.

Of course, some individuals spend much less money on fuel than others. In fact, according to AAA, the average driver spends about $2,500 annually on gas, compared to the national average of $3,100.

That being said, the type of vehicle you drive depends largely on where you live. For example, the Bureau of Land Management uses gray Jeep Grand Cherokees, while the DEA assigns white Ford Crown Victorias. Of course, the agencies also use a variety of other vehicles, including brown Chevy Impalas, brown Dodge Chargers, and brown Honda Accords.

There are several reasons why certain vehicles are chosen over others.

What’s the FBI dress code?

The FBI is one of America’s premiere law enforcement agencies and takes pride in being able to serve the public. They do so with great honor and integrity. Their motto is “Fidelity, Bravery, Integrity.” To help achieve those goals, the Bureau requires that its employees dress professionally and act responsibly. This includes wearing appropriate clothing while working and maintaining a professional appearance.

While there is no specific dress code, the Bureau does provide some guidance. Agents are expected to wear suits and ties whenever possible. However, casual attire is acceptable during off hours and away from the office. In addition to the standard uniform, agents are encouraged to wear badges, name tags, and ID cards. These items make it easier to identify agents and assist in case of emergencies.

The Bureau also provides guidelines regarding grooming standards. Hair styles should be neat and clean, and facial hair should be trimmed neatly. Agents should avoid excessive makeup or jewelry. Women are strongly advised against wearing short skirts or revealing clothing.
