The comedian recently announced he had been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. He shared his diagnosis on Instagram. “I’ve struggled my whole life,” he wrote. “With BPD it’s like having PTSD without war.”
He continued: “I’m scared shitless most days. I don’t know what I’ll do or say next. But here’s the thing… I’m working on myself every day. And I’ve learned that you just gotta keep pushing forward no matter how hard things seem. You’re never gonna feel good all the time. But the people around you will love you anyway.”
Peter Michael Davidson was born on January 20, 1952, in New York City. He grew up in Manhattan and attended the prestigious Dalton School. In his youth he enjoyed playing tennis, skiing, and swimming. At age 14, Davidson began studying acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. He graduated from high school in 1970 and enrolled at Carnegie Mellon University where he majored in English literature and drama. During college, Davidson became involved in theater productions at the Pittsburgh Playhouse Theater Company. After graduating in 1974, Davidson moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in film.

In 1977, Davidson landed his first starring role in the short-lived NBC sitcom Soap. He played the character of “Joey”, a young man who had been raised by nuns since birth, and whose parents died while he was still a child. The show lasted one season.
After Soap, Davidson starred in the 1978 ABC comedy series Good Times. He played the role of “Dwayne” alongside Bea Arthur, Alfonso Ribeiro, and Annette O’Toole. The show ran for two seasons before being cancelled.
Davidson’s early acting career began in 2012, when he landed his first role in the short film The Last Day of Summer. He later starred in the web series The Adventures of Puss ‘n Boots, which aired on Nickelodeon’s Nicktoons Network. In August 2013, it was announced that Davidson had been cast in the lead role of the ABC Family original movie The Perfectionists.
In October 2013, Davidson joined the main cast of the NBC sitcom Community as Jeff Winger, a character based on creator Dan Harmon’s real life persona. His performance earned him several accolades, including being nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards. On May 12, 2014, it was reported that Davidson had left the show due to creative differences.
On September 18, 2014, it was announced that he had signed on to star in the CBS pilot The Millers. However, the project did not receive a pick up order.
From January 8 to 14, 2016, Davidson took part in the second season of the reality competition series America’s Got Talent. During his audition, Davidson sang “I’m Your Baby Tonight”, originally performed by David Cook. After receiving positive feedback from both judges Simon Cowell and Heidi Klum, he proceeded to sing “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face”. He received another standing ovation from the audience, and was declared one of the three finalists. Following his elimination, he revealed that he had been diagnosed with Asperger syndrome.
On April 27, 2017, it was announced that David had been cast in the leading role of the Fox musical drama series Pitch, alongside Anna Camp, Chris Diamantopoulos, and James Marsden. The series premiered on June 2, 2017.
On July 19, 2018, it was announced that NBC had given the production a full-season pickup. On November 9, 2018, it was confirmed that Davidson would exit the series during the upcoming fifth season.
On December 11, 2018, it was reported that he had been cast in the recurring role of Lenny in the fourth season of the Amazon Prime Video anthology series Black Mirror.
